An article about things that people shouldn't do after turning 50 caught my eye this morning. No problem. In 2015, I'm turning 60. I have my own list of things that I shouldn't do.

The article was published by AARP and titled "11 Things You should Never Do Again After 50." They listed things like Jell-O shots, karaoke after Jell-O shots, crowd surfing, collecting brick-a-brac, bragging about money, explaining your personal role about the whole "Paul was dead" Beatles' thing, and Parkour. If you don't know what Parkour even is, it's a given that you shouldn't do it.

It got me to thinking about how I'll be turning 60 next spring. What are some of the activities that I shouldn't be doing after turning 60? Here are some of the things I came up with.

  • Except for music, do not wax nostalgic about the 1980s. The hairstyles, clothes and attitudes were just plain bad. And since I personally  spent most of the decade in an unhappy marriage, it's not a period of time that I really want to relive.
  • Worry about stuff that I have no control over. I don't need the aggravation.
  • Get involved in family squabbles with siblings. Again, I don't need the headaches.
  • Being just an armchair Dad when it comes to my kids' activities. I probably won't climb Mt. Everest with my son's scout troop, but I might be game for a go at Mt. Adams.
  • Accept a passive role when it comes to my three daughters' boyfriends. Won't happen.
  • Apologize to anyone about choosing to have spent my life and career here in my home town.

That's a start on my list. I don't have an official "bucket list" yet, other than the short one I've had for years. I'll share that in a future blog,
