Longtime Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin will not seek re-election in November.  Today Irwin made the announcement at the Yakima County Commissioners meeting.  Irwin, who has been Sheriff for 13 years says it's time for him get off the horse. "I hope that my tenure as Sheriff and my opportunity to occupy this office, that I will be remembered as a good Sheriff, but I really want an even better Sheriff to come along after me to lead these men and women."

His tenure has had some successes and a few controversies. He twice successfully led the effort for a voter approved three tenths sales tax increase to pay for Law and Justice needs. On the down side, his office was criticized in the Kevin Harper case. a man believed to be responsible for the Goggin murders in West Valley, but was never tried for those murders.
Irwin will serve out his term which ends at the end of the year.
