Motorcyclists will have a chance to support the Special Olympics during a road ride this Saturday.

It’s the fourth annual Hogs Hit the Highway ride, organized by the Yakima Police Department as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign for Special Olympics.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. from Owens Cycle, 1707 N. First St., with riders leaving at 9:30 a.m. for Leavenworth. They’ll make a midroute stop at the Red Horse Diner in Ellensburg and return to Owens.

The original route was to take riders over Cayuse, Chinook and White passes, but organizers decided against it because of weather-related safety concerns.

The $25 registration fee includes the first poker hand. Additional hands are $10 apiece, with a prize given for the person who has the most hands sponsored.

A variety of prizes are available, including a lodging package at Whistlin’ Jack Lodge, jewelry and fishing equipment. All types of motorcycles are welcome.

Full proceeds go to support Special Olympics in Yakima County. Special Olympics provides athletic training and competition for the developmentally disabled.

More information about the event or prize donations can be obtained from Keith Emhoff at 509-575-3566 or kemhoff@ci.yakima.wa.us.
