Hot dogs, apple pie, baseball and philanthropy—what’s more American than that!  We’ve got two out of the four for you this weekend but you’ll have to bring your own dogs and apple pie!Two Yakima area Little Leagues are helping Northwest Harvest, for the first time, to STRIKE OUT Hunger!  West Valley Little League and Yakima National Little League teams, coaches and families have been collecting non-perishable food items.   Both Leagues have their Opening Day Ceremonies this Saturday, April 12th and they will bring all the food they have been collecting.

Folks from NW Harvest say even better than a grand slam, it will be so rewarding to see Yakima's young athletes  loading up food to help out those that are hungry in their very own community--especially while many of those that are hungry are children the same age as ball players.   1 in 4 children in our community don’t get enough to eat, so these are kids helping kids!

The West Valley Little League fields are located by Cottonwood Elementary, 1041 S. 96th Avenue.  Their Opening Day festivities start at 10am.  Northwest Harvest’s  truck will be parked there during their festivities and the kids will help load the food after the ceremony and parade of teams is over.

The Yakima National Little League fields are located at Elks Memorial Park, 911 Hathaway St. off N. 16th Avenue.   They will be having an Opening Day breakfast starting at 8:30am and their ceremonies also start at 10am.   A large Northwest Harvest donation bin will be on hand to collect their food donations all morning long.

May sportsmanship rule the day, may the best teams win and may the lessons of helping others stay with these kids long after their playing days are over.
