The second baseman of the Mariners' 1990s playoff teams takes the mound on April 6, when the Mariners open up their 2015 season at home against the Los Angeles Angels.Joey Cora played for Seattle from 1995-98 after signing as a free agent. He played 120 games that season, helping the Mariners to their first playoff appearance.

Cora became a fan favorite in Seattle for his on-the-field hustle and great glove. He scored the tying run ahead of Ken Griffey, Jr.'s game winner in the M's playoff win over New York that sent the Mariners to the 1995 American League Championship series.

Cora played for four teams in his 11 years in the big leagues. He started with San Diego in 1987, then moved to Chicago, where he played for the White Sox for four seasons. He then spent nearly four years with the Mariners before being dealt to Cleveland at the 1998 trade deadline and retiring after the season.

The Puerto Rico native won a World Series ring as a coach with the White Sox in 2005.

Cora was also a finalist for the Mariners managerial position when it was available after the 2013 season. The position was ultimately filled by current skipper Lloyd McClendon.
