NEW YORK (AP) — "Our long national nightmare is over." That's how David Letterman's last "Late Show" opened. He had a news clip of President Gerald Ford making the statement following the 1974 resignation of Richard Nixon. Then, the comment was repeated by former Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. President Barack Obama also made the statement, adding Letterman is retiring. Letterman moved in and asked, "you're just kidding, right?" Letterman ended his 33-year career with a final show on CBS last night.
