The State's Joint Transportation Committee is meeting in Yakima today to talk about statewide projects including those in Yakima. City Manager Tony O'Rourke says the city is looking for funding for a variety of projects including the expansion of I-82 and new on and off ramps into the mill site area which is estimated to cost some $56 million. Plus he says the committee will be viewing completed projects in Yakima. "Both the Lincoln and MLK underpasses are classic illustrations of State support. So it's a combination of looking at the statewide needs but also what the needs of Yakima are."
The committee, lead by Senator Co-Chair Curtis King will be touring the Yakima area Today looking at various transportation projects including the roundabout work completed in Union Gap.
The committee meets in different communities around the state during the year. The next stop will be a meeting in Tacoma on October 16.
