OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Jay Inslee has called a special session to start next Wednesday for lawmakers to finish work on a two-year state operating budget.

Inslee issued a statement Thursday afternoon saying that he will invite budget negotiators to meet in his office Monday morning to give them a head start before the rest of the lawmakers return.

Legislative leaders had already agreed to adjourn the regular legislative session on Friday, two days earlier than it was originally scheduled to end. However, Republicans wanted lawmakers to return on Monday, and had sent Inslee a letter Thursday saying so.
