La Center Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Little League Theft

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — The former treasurer of a Clark County Little League accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the organization has pleaded not guilty in the case.

The Columbian reports that 39-year-old Liska Stokes entered not guilty pleas Tuesday to theft, tampering with physical evidence and money laundering. She appeared in court while out of custody and was released on her own recognizance.

Stokes had served as the La Center Little League's treasurer from 2011 to 2015. She is accused of stealing between $9,000 and $23,000 from the organization, and then destroying evidence by deleting the financial information stored on the league's laptop.

Court documents say she obtained a $5,000 loan to repay a portion of the stolen money.

Stokes' attorney says his client has no prior criminal history.
