The E-Verify System is already being used in the city of Yakima to determine if employees of city contractors can legally work in the country. Now, the Kennewick City Council will vote this week to use the system in that city. The electronic system requires people to fill out information that's checked by the immigration service. The Kennewick City Attorney, Lisa Beaton will likely save the city money on background checks for people who are being considered for employment. The program is voluntary and is not a test for citizenship.
