Before the euphoria of patriotism kicks in and you get all caught up in passion of the holiday a quick reminder is in order - FIREWORKS IN THE CITY OF YAKIMA ARE PROHIBITED.I know. Killjoy, summer Grinch, lame!  But then there is also - Personal safety, all ten fingers, protect property and raging wildfire.

Since 1992  Yakima City Ordinance 10.15.015)(RCW70.77, WAC 212.7 says the use or possession of or the use of Fireworks in the City of Yakima are prohibited .

Add to the law the current reality of drought conditions and record high temperatures  and we have a recipe for trouble!

If you want the fireworks moments of oooh and ahhh, you are encouraged to go to the public displays in the Yakima area, the largest being the FREE display at State Fair Park.

City firefighters say to be safe:
keep your property clear of debris,
make sure to keep a defensible space around our property
protect your water lines  (pumps, irrigation systems, pump houses)
clear weeds and debris that could potentially burn or melt your systems.
Remove items stored on your decks, near entrances and exits.
