Viva la difference. A new study reveals that when you work out to burn fat, it matters when you do it and it varies by your sex. in terms of how much fat you're burning. Researchers had a group of men and women who didn’t normally exercise participate in three workout classes a week. Each participant consumed a drink before and after each class, but some were drinking a placebo with no calories, while others consumed a calorie-controlled carbohydrate drink.

What do you think they discovered? The scientists found that women burned more fat than men, and those who consumed the carbohydrate drink before working out burned 22 percent more fat than those who drank it afterwards.

Conversely, the men burned less fat overall, but those given the carb drink after working out burned eight percent more fat than those who consumed their carbs before working out.

SO what would cause a reversal of effectiveness? Researchers say it’s likely because men tend to have more muscle mass, and since carbs are stored in muscles, it’s their bodies' preferred fuel. Women's bodies, on the other hand, are programmed to burn fat in order to conserve carbohydrates in the body.

So you may want to do the buddy thing with your spouse and that’s great. You can spot each other but you can’t carb up at the same time for maximum effectiveness! (Daily Mail)
