With the major holidays coming, expect any number of engagement  announcements to follow.  So the question is - Are diamonds still a girl’s best friend?

Maybe not anymore! Many of today’s trendy brides are asking for moissanite for their engagement rings.

Moissanite was discovered in 1893 in a meteorite crash crater in Arizona by a future Nobel Prize winner.

The naturally occurring silicon carbide gem is so extremely rare that today’s stones are made in a lab.

Moissanite is a clear, shiny gemstone that a growing number of Millennial brides-to-be are choosing because the rare mineral is eco-friendly, conflict-free and about one-tenth the price of a standard diamond.

Stylecaster.com says diamonds may have a slightly harder texture than moissanite but both will hold their color and clarity forever --and moissanite has more brilliance and fire than a diamond.

And though the stone is manmade, you are still as legally married as if you had sprung for the real deal!
