Did you get that flu shot? According to the CDC 43 states have seen an increase in the flu this season, but surprisingly Washington isn't one of them. Last year Yakima saw about 75 cases at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. However while Yakima is saw low numbers other parts of the country are seeing increases.  Hospitalization rates have increased to 12 percent per 100,000 people from 8 percent the previous year.  According to the CDC so far this season 21 children have died from the flu; six of those deaths occurring during the last two weeks of December.

Typically the flu season's most active months are between December and February but it can last through may.  The CDC recommends that if you haven't had a flu a shot this season to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
