Heads up marathoners. While diet and exercise are the keys to losing weight, new research finds the most successful dieters only need to run an average of three miles per week to shed excess weight.  Three miles, not 33 or 303 but 3…per WEEK!

For the study, Dutch researchers had 538 rookie runners fill out questionnaires about their diets and their reasons for taking up running.

After a year the participants were assessed again and the data revealed people who were watching their diet and  running around 3.1 miles a week,  lost more fat than those who ran more but didn’t watch their diet and more than those who dieted but didn’t run.   So diet is key 1 and exercise is key 1-a but not as many miles as you might have thought!
