Homeless people in Yakima have a deadline: today. Monday is moving day for the homeless from property on East Chestnut to the lot across the street from the Yakima Police Department.

The Yakima City Council decided on the move last week, issuing nearly 50 people at the temporary camp notices telling them they have until today to move out of the neighborhood and into the lot near the police department at Third Street and East Walnut. City officials say vouchers for housing will be issued to the homeless early next month, so the camp across from the police department is only temporary. Portable toilets and washing stations are already in place at the new lot.
