TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A 21-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say she attempted to strangle a corrections officer in Tacoma.

Pierce County prosecutors said in a news release that Kady Jo Paxton was also charged Tuesday with attempted assault and unlawful possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.

Her bail was set at $250,000. It wasn't immediately clear if Paxton had an attorney.

Authorities say Paxton complained early Thursday that the toilet in her cell didn't work. While a deputy walked her to another cell, authorities say Paxton came at the deputy and tried to strangle her with a towel tied with knots at the ends.

Authorities say a struggle ensued and the deputy eventually gained control with help from other officers.

Paxton had been in jail on a car theft charge.
