Infant in Serious Condition After Being Ejected From Van

A four-month-old girl is in Harborview Medical Center with significant head injuries after being ejected from a van at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Hathaway Street.

The incident occurred Friday morning when a Ford Windstar van was hit by a Chevy Tahoe and then careened off the road and struck a cement pole. The father of the child was driving the van but fled the scene after the accident. He was arrested a short time later.

The child was taken to Memorial before being transported to Harborview.

The little girl was in a car seat but was not properly belted in.
