Immigration rallies are planned in Yakima and other cities in the state and across the nation on October 5 as part of the National Day of Dignity and Respect.

Charlie McAteer with the immigrant rights group OneAmerica says they will hold the rally in front of 4th District Congressman Doc Hastings Yakima office at 402 East Yakima Avenue.

McAteer says the message is simple. It is time to pass immigration reform.

“This is the moment we need to seize. There’s so much energy behind doing something now to fix our broken immigration system.”

There are currently 218 votes needed in the House to pass a reform package and OneAmerica is determined to win those votes.

The rally in Yakima will be lead by local pastors Reverend Robert Trimble, Pastor Maria Palma, Reverend David Hacker and Pastor Abner Vasquez.

The event starts at noon. More than 250 people are expected to attend.
