Since having successful bariatric surgery last spring, I've really had to change both my eating habits and attitudes about food.

I forgot about the fair.

My favorite thing about the Central Washington State Fair has always been the food. Corn dogs, Young Life roast beef sandwiches, Harrah Half-Pounder burgers, Wonder Bars (ice cream bars dipped in chocolate and rolled in nuts), authentic Mexican food, teriyaki noodles. You name it, I've eaten it. I'm sure there's more to mention, but why torture myself any further.

You see, my stomach now holds the equivalent of about one ounce. Not a lot of room for fair food. Man, I miss the good old salty, greasy bricks of curly fries smothered in ketchup. The elephant ears, funnel cakes mini-donuts. Oh, the humanity.

Now for the trade-off.

Let's see. Down nearly 110 pounds. Blood pressure is where it should be now. Shrinking out of clothes into smaller sizes. Working out at the gym more often. Sleeping like a baby at night. Keeping up with my kids better.

Yeah, I'll take the latter.

But what I would do for one foot-long jalapeno corn dog with yellow mustard.
