Hundreds Weigh in on Fate of Olympic Park Historic Chalet

BREMERTON (AP) — Hundreds have weighed in as Olympic National Park officials consider what to do with an historic chalet that's being threatened by a river in a remote wilderness.

The Kitsap Sun reports the three options for the Enchanted Valley Chalet include: do nothing and let nature take its course, dismantle the chalet or move it to higher ground. A final decision isn't expected until spring 2018.

Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says the chalet has generated more comments than any other issue in recent memory. More than two-thirds of that public input came from outside Washington.

The chalet was built as a backcountry lodge in the 1930s and has been used as a wilderness ranger station and emergency shelter. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
