There’s trouble brewing on East Yakima Avenue. The homeless have gathered at the old Greyhound Bus Depot now owned by Yakima Neighborhood Health (YNH). The problems have come from homeless people drifting into the neighboring business community and the list of concerns shared by Chamber of Commerce President Verlynn Best include aggressive panhandling, threats, car prowls, trespassing and littering drug paraphernalia and human waste and more. There’s no effective dialogue going on at present between the city and YNH so the complaints pour in without any sense of resolution .

The Homeless Network of Yakima was formerly under the direction of Yakima County but is now in the hands of the Yakima Conference of Governments. The director there is Larry Matson who joins us Tuesday morning at 7:15 to talk about efforts currently underway to help the homeless. We hope you’ll join us.
