SEATTLE (AP) — The owner of a spooked horse that bolted through a crowd at a Washington fair, injuring five people, says a nearby forklift scared her colt.

Classic Carriages owner Carrie Swearingen told KOMO-TV she was standing by her horse when a forklift carrying bleachers approached the 4-year-old animal from behind Friday afternoon.

She believes the noise startled the horse and sent him running.

Swearingen says if she had received warning about the machine she would have taken precautionary measures to avoid the incident.

Swearingen called the incident very unfortunate, saying she was sorry it happened.

Lewis County Sheriff's Office says the incident is still under investigation.

Of the five people injured, a 38-year-old man remains under observation in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center.
