The Yakima Housing Authority is asking the Yakima City Council to ask the federal government to help it  acquire, remodel and adapt the former Marine Armory Center at 1702 Tahoma Avenue to create housing and services for veterans. City officials say the General Services Administration is in the process of declaring this property "surplus" which will start a process for accepting community proposals to re-use of this property. And they say highest priority will be given to proposals that provide services for homeless veterans.
The Authority says having Yakima City Council support would be very helpful to the proposal. The council is expected to talk about the proposal at Tuesday's council meeting set for 6:00 p.m. at Yakima City Hall.
