It is road construction season and the  WSDOT Crews will be busy trying to keep the steep hills above Highway 12 safe through a series of projects.

It means you could be left drumming your fingers on the dash board while trying to go over White Pass. The state DOT says drivers can expect temporary lane closures east of White Pass seven days a week during the day. That means traffic could be stopped for up to a half-hour in both directions. The work is taking place in two separate spots just east of White Pass.

The closures will go to four days per week – Monday through Thursday- after Memorial Day weekend. The work includes taking down rock which could tumble onto the roadway. They will also secure other rock and envelope even more with a wire mesh.
