Yakima city crews worked overnight and placed sandbags this morning in areas around the city to prevent flooding as warm weather melted the ice and snow of the past few weeks.

High water in the west and southern parts of Yakima has caused several road closures. City officials say 72nd Avenue between Zier Road and Nob Hill Boulevard remained closed Wednesday morning. Authorities are asking motorists to use 64th Avenue for north and south travel in that area.

And Washington Avenue is closed between 48th Avenue and 16th Avenue. Use Tieton Drive or Ahtanum Road for east and west travel there.
