High School Evacuated, Teen Arrested After Bomb Threat

Authorities say a high school in the small town of St. Helens, Oregon, was evacuated after a report that a student had put a small homemade bomb in his locker. The Oregon State Police bomb squad swept the school and found one device.

KATU-TV reports that a 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday. St. Helens police say the student was held for investigation of felony possession of an explosive device, felony manufacturing of an explosive device and disorderly conduct.

No one was hurt.

Students at St. Helens High School were bused Friday morning to a nearby elementary school, then returned to their campus about two hours later.

Police say another student told the vice principal about the bomb and administrators called police. Officers say no specific threat was made.

The boy was taken to a juvenile facility in nearby Longview, Washington. Police say there aren't sufficient juvenile beds in Oregon's Columbia County and they contract with Longview for help in housing juveniles.

Located in northwest Oregon along the Columbia River, St. Helens has a population of about 13,000.
