If you know anything about the history of the Yakima Valley you know the name Dr. Kathleen Ross. Dr. Ross snjm is president emerita and professor of intercultural communication at Heritage University, as well as the director of the university’s Institute for Student Identity and Success and a nationally known leader in higher education. She has a new book that is available now, and will be officially published this December. The official release date will be in December.

A news release from the school says the book is titled Breakthrough Strategies: Classroom-Based Practices to Support New Majority College Students, it identifies effective strategies that faculty have used to help “new majority” students (those from immigrant or disadvantaged backgrounds, or non-college-going families) build the necessary skills to succeed in college. Ross says the Breakthrough Strategies book is the result of a research project that began in 2011, the year after she stepped down as President of Heritage University (a position she had held since the university began in 1982).
