Lead with your chin-Keep your chin up-You gotta take life on the chin.  We’ve all hear the expressions but just what purpose do our chin really serve!Wait, who would ever really ask such a question?  University of Iowa researchers, that’s who! The white coats looked into it, following a group of nearly 40 participants from age three through adulthood.

They found those whose jaws endured the most wear and tear actually had the smallest chins. This means an old theory that are chins are grown once we apply stress to our jaws is out. The new theory is that we simply have smaller heads than the Neanderthals did. I suppose that may have something to do with a lack of saber tooth tigers trying to gnaw on our noggins?

One theory is that as the human head shrunk over time, the chin failed to get with the program.

Another theory is that our sex hormones explain our chins, as women may be attracted to guys with larger chins because it signals he has good genes. At the same time a small chin on a woman may signal more estrogen and therefore make her more attractive to a male.

So what by the hair of my chinny chin chin is the answer?  So far there's no definitive answer, but it seems our chins are not there to simply catch fallen food or form the infrastructure for your stylish new goatee. (Fox)
