The official snowfall total at the Yakima airport is about 6 inches so far but people all around the city of Yakima are reporting even more snow. Up to a foot of new snow has already fallen in the Cascade mountains this weekend. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4:00 a.m. Monday. Yakima city snowplows have been trying to keep up with the snowfall and will work through the night to plow priority areas. The downtown business core, hills and areas around schools. If you park in the downtown area city officials say pay attention to the snow route plan and the need to move your car.
Area hospitals say they expect to see people on Monday with injured backs and possible broken bones like they do every time there's a heavy snow fall. And they also see heart attack victims as well.
A report in the Dec. 13, 2004, issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association
found a big increase in heart related deaths between Dec. 25 and Jan. 7. And the concern continues in the valley Today as a large amount of snow has fallen and more people will be out shoveling as they begin a new week.
