I really wish science would make up its mind! Many studies have hinted that drinking alcohol –and Yakima Valley wine, beer & cider in particular- in moderation may offer health benefits while other studies have said that the opposite is true.  Now a brand new study finds overall there was no association between people's drinking habits and their odds of showing clogged arteries.

European researchers looked at 2,000 patients who underwent CT angiography-- an imaging test that detects 'placques' in heart arteries. Overall, there was no association between people's drinking habits and their odds of showing clogged arteries.

Lead researcher Dr. Julia Karady says the findings cannot confirm a protective effect of light alcohol consumption, nor was there evidence that heavier drinking raises the risk of clogged arteries.  Some critique the study, saying that the study participants were all sent for the imaging test because their doctors thought they might have heart disease.  SO, let’s have more studies!
