Rice was signed in 2011 after playing his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He led the team with 50 receptions for 748 yards and seven TDs last season, when he started 16 games for the first time. He played in nine games during his first season with the Seahawks, missing the first two with a shoulder injury and the final five because of a concussion. He had 32 catches for 484 yards and two TDs.

With Rice out, it could hasten the return of Percy Harvin, who started the season on the physically unable to perform  list after having hip surgery on August 1. Harvin returned to practice on a limited basis last week, but has yet to be added to the 53-man roster.
