Scrivner says 40 years without an accident is something to be proud of, but he says all he did was pay attention and drive defensively.

You just try to stay out of trouble before you get into it. You don’t overdrive your limit. It’s just basic 101 driving that they teach you in high school.

Scrivner says over the past 20 years drivers' habits have changed and that has made it tougher for truck drivers. Many people are driving distracted these days -- something that he says never used to happen when he hit the road 40 years ago.
