Two days till Halloween and you are scrambling for a costume. You want to be funny, you want to be topical, you want to be hip and cool ... and yet the experts say there some things you DON'T want to do.

Halloween Experts (whomever they are) suggest avoiding these costumes:

  • Costumes that mock mental health: British retailers have removed “mental patient” and “psycho ward” costumes from store shelves. Now that we know more about them, serious conditions like schizophrenia aren’t so funny any more.
  • Deadly medical conditions. Like the sexy “Anna Rexia” skeleton dress costume that’s been circulating online this season. Or “Sexy Ebola.” Any “Sexy” version of things that cause pain and suffering --bad idea.
  • Costumes that mock other religions. No pregnant nuns. No Hindu gods you don’t understand.
  • A racial or ethnic stereotype (especially if it’s not your own!): Like A Native American headdress, or a geisha, or a person from the Middle East. If it’s not your culture, don’t go there.
  • Nazis. PRINCE HARRY learned that one the hard way. Nazis are always, always bad.
  • No whiteface or blackface. Ever! Just ... no! It didn’t work for JULIANNE HOUGH or NICK CANNON last year. It will not work for you.
