Officers with the Transportation Security Administration at the Yakima Air Terminal discovered a loaded firearm at the security checkpoint Wednesday morning during routine screening of carry-on baggage.

Officers say the gun, a .380-caliber Ruger loaded with six rounds, was found around 5:30 a.m. TSA officers detected it in the carry-on bag of a 44-year-old male passenger ticketed for travel to Seattle. The man was able to resolve the issue and continue his trip. He could face a large fine at a later date.

This is the first firearm discovered at the Yakima airport this year. Nationwide, since the year began more than 370 guns have been found during routine screening of carry-ons at airports across the country.
