People who love math are becoming actuaries these days.

For the past two decades Central Washington University in Ellensburg has been the only school in the State to offer a Bachelor of Science Degree in Actuarial Science.

Associate Professor Dr. Kathy Temple says Actuaries manage risk like working for insurance companies or social security or managing finances from the stock market. “As more and more companies are interested in managing risk there’s more demand for actuaries.”

School officials say they've seen interest in the field double in the past decade.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics employment for actuaries is expected to grow by 27 percent within the next seven years.

Dr. Temple says if you're strong in math and you love numbers you may want to become an actuary.
