UNION GAP (AP) — Yakima County prosecutors have charged a Union Gap man in the 2015 death of his 10-year-old grandson.

The Yakima Herald-Republic says 58-year-old Steven A. Reedy was charged with manslaughter and unlawful firearms possession.

Nathaniel Reedy-McCoy was struck in the chest as he stood with his grandfather outside a trailer early on March 8, 2015. He died at a local hospital.

Reedy told police that he and his grandson went outside to investigate why an electrical generator quit when the boy was shot.

According to a probable-cause statement, an autopsy found the boy was killed by a gunshot fired from 2 to 6 feet away, and Union Gap investigators said Reedy was the only person that close to his grandson at the time.

Reedy has previously denied allegations he killed his grandson. A listed number for Reedy could not be found. It was unclear whether he had an attorney yet.
