The Governor will highlight significant projects to increase water supply, agricultural exports in the Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin.

Gov. Chris Gregoire on Thursday, Aug. 2nd, will kick-off a 2-day tour of Eastern Washington, highlighting key projects to increase access to water and grow our state’s agricultural exports. Joining Gregoire on the tour will be Washington State Department of Agriculture Director Dan Newhouse and Department of Ecology Director Ted Sturdevant.

Governor  Gregoire will meet with the Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Implementation Group at 9am Thursday morning to highlight progress being made to ensure a reliable source of water in the Yakima basin, and discuss needs moving forward.

The meeting will take place in the Garden View Room of the Yakima Area Arboretum, at 1401 Arboretum Drive

Following this meeting, Gregoire will meet and interact with a group of children participating in a nature day camp focused on learning about water.

Later in the day, the governor will visit a Sunnyside area farm to view crop damage caused by recent storms and the WSU  Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser.

Friday, the Governor will tour mostly Benton County area projects.
