The partial shutdown of the U.S. government is affecting federal workers throughout the nation, including at the Yakima Air Terminal. But Manager Rob Peterson says they're currently fully staffed at the air traffic control tower and at security stations for screening at the airport.

Peterson says he's more concerned about the effects on the local economy. "Ultimately these employees are working without a paycheck, so you can see the ripple effect within the local economy by people not spending money."

And while Peterson says the government shutdown hasn't damaged airport operations, if it continues there's certainly the possibility that would change and that operations would have to be adjusted. But he says at this point, anyone visiting the Yakima Air Terminal wouldn't know that the government is in a partial shutdown.
