SEATTLE (AP) — It's often called ABC gum — already-been-chewed gum. And people traditionally will leave it on a bedpost overnight or under a desk at school. In Seattle, for the past 20 years, people have been leaving discarded gum wads on the walls of an alley by Pike Place Market. But now market officials are ready to clean the wall. It's estimated there are 1 million pieces of gum stuck to the walls of Post Alley. A contractor has been hired to melt the gum away with steam — a sticky job if there ever was one. Market officials considered using a pressure washer to clean the "gum wall" — but it's feared the historic building can be damaged that way.
