You’ve heard it before, but that doesn’t lessen its importance to saving lives. Blood donations decline during the summer months, especially around holidays like Independence Day. Many regular donors -- up to 40 percent -- are out of town or just too busy to give blood this time of year, causing many hosting organizations to postpone blood drives.

This Friday (July 3), the American Red Cross will host its annual Celebrate Freedom Blood Drive at participating Red Cross blood centers – including locations in Bend, Medford, Portland, Richland, Roseburg, Salem, Vancouver and Yakima.

Blood donors with all types, particularly O negative, A negative and B negative, are urged to make an appointment to give this summer.

To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.
