Yakima city officials are talking about the 2015 city budget during a study session at City Hall Tuesday.

City Manager Tony O'Rourke says city leaders will talk about the only increase in the budget, an increase in garbage rates, and he says the city will start a voluntary recycling program next year.

The recycling rate if you were to purchase it would be about $3 a month. That’s cheaper compared to Yakima Waste Systems which currently provides a service for $8.20 per month.

The city is proposing an increase in garbage rates in 2015. If you have a 36-gallon container there's a proposed $2 increase and if you have a 96-gallon container the city is proposing to increase rates by 98 cents per month.

O'Rourke says those are the only increases proposed for the 2015 operating budget of more than $70 million.

The study session on the city budget is set for 10:00 a.m.
