This winter, Yakima Valley Community College offers Vines, Wines and Dollar $igns a unique blend of premium courses from two complementary programs, Vineyard & Winery Technology and Business Administration. Vines, Wines and Dollar $igns will include three courses Introduction to Washington Wines, Washington Terroir, and Wine Marketing preparing students on how to market products and be successful in the growing wine industry. The three courses are linked into one vibrant learning community – a distinctive pairing of programs geared toward knowledge and skills needed for careers in the Washington wine industry.  “By teaching in a learning community style we will be able to better build connections across the disciplines and develop seminars and projects that engage the students and create a learning environment that draws from both the wine and business courses,” said Trent Ball agriculture department chair.  As the wine industry in Washington grows the need for skilled workers also grows. “The Washington wine industry is seeing rapid expansion and growth. One of the keys to success of the industry, in addition to quality grape and wine production, is marketing and sales. This cross program training is intended to give students knowledge of the Washington wine industry as well as an understanding of business and marketing principles,” Ball continued.  Vines, Wines and Dollar $igns will meet on Monday and Wednesday evening and will be available on both the Yakima and Grandview campuses.  Register today, winter quarter begins January 5, 2015.
