Full Scale Plane Crash Exercise Set For Saturday

How would local emergency responders handle a major plane crash near the Yakima Airport? Horace Ward is the Senior Emergency Planner with the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management who says a full scale airport exercise happens on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Creekside Loop Road West of Cornerstone Medicine. He says they try and bring as much realism as possible to the exercise. "We'll have about 80 volunteers who will be our patient actors. So fire and ems will be helping those people and getting them ready to go to the hospital."
More than 20 different agencies will be involved in the exercise on Saturday. As a result of the exercise Washington Avenue will be closed between 40th and 48th avenues during the event.
