Work has started at Yakima's Franklin Park as volunteers from Yakima Rotary Clubs build a new playground and picnic shelter and continue to work on a new pavilion for summer concerts.

The Yakima Downtown Rotary Club raised a little over $83,000 for the new playground equipment. Volunteers say by next weekend kids could be playing on a brand new facility.

Members of Southwest Yakima Rotary raised $25,000 for two new picnic shelters that will sit right next to the playground. In addition construction on the pavilion project is well underway, which is paid for by the Sunrise Rotary Club.
