France Says Models Too Thin Earns A Fat Fine — Dave’s Diary

Which come first, the chicken or the plus sixed egg?   The average American woman is a size 14,  so it stands to reason that a size 14 would be the most common size sold in the United State -- but it’s  not.

It seems women would rather believe the numbers of the past rather than the trust the figures of their present figure when it comes to shopping.

Next, enter this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition featuring plus-size model Robyn Lawley who teamed up with bigger models  to recreate the 2014 cover .   Remember - she is on the team with the “bigger models”.

Lawley,  is a size 12, and at a size 12 is the first plus-size model in the magazine.

Average American - a 14.  A plus sized model - a 12!  All other professional models 2, 4, 6?

SO what kind of message are we sending?  Before you answer, the pendulum swings back the other way, on its way to France!

You may have heard about a law that's been proposed in France that would ban the fashion industry from using models that are too thin, but what you may not know is that the penalties for violators include possible jail time.

France's lower house of Parliament passed a bill last week requiring models to provide bills of health to modeling agencies showing they have a body mass index greater than 18 before being hired.

According to People, modeling agency casting directors who knowingly hire underweight models could face an $82,000 fine or six months in prison. France's upper house of Parliament will vote on the bill next week
