Former Hanford Workers Get Fines Not Jail Time

A judge is making four people pay back the checks they were given for overtime they never worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.  Yakima federal court Judge Lonny Suko imposed fines rather than jail time for the defendants, saying they and the six others accused of falsifying overtime cooperated fully with the investigation.
Five other employees were fined last week, though the judge reduced the amount prosecutors asked for and didn't require any to spend time in jail.
A supervisor pleaded guilty three days before his trial earlier this month. He was sentenced to a fine and 30 days in jail, but the four supervisors he would have been tried with were acquitted by a jury.
Fines ranged from $30,000 to more than $165,000.
