Due to injuries to Kevin Kolb and E.J. Manuel, Jeff Tuel, the undrafted rookie free agent from Washington State, will get the start for the Bills against New England on Sept. 8.

Manuel is dealing with a knee injury and may be back for week one, while Kolb has suffered what may be a career ending concussion, so Tuel is preparing to face the Patriots. Buffalo also signed veteran Matt Leinart to provide roster depth.

Tuel wasn't invited to the NFL combine, although he played for four seasons for WSU.  (The Cougars won only three games in 2012) He impressed scouts at his pro day in Pullman enough for Buffalo to sign him to a free agent deal. It was assumed that Kolb would be the Bills' starter and that 16th overall draft pick Manuel would back him up. But as we mentioned, injuries have sidelined those players, so Tuel finds himself getting ready to start against New England.

Here's Tuel's pro day workout video.
