I have been known to hold the occasional grudge a little longer than I should but eventually I come around to “letting go”.  How about you? How easily do you forgive people? A new study reveals that being a forgiving person probably means you're a mentally healthy person.Dave, why do you always post this psychology stuff?  Fair question-I received a degree in psychology back in 1980 and this is about the only time I have to revisit it!  So bear with me.

Psychologists had 148 young adults fill out questionnaires regarding their physical and emotional stress, well-being, and their tendencies to be "forgiving" towards themselves or others. They found that greater forgiving tendencies correlated with fewer negative mental health symptoms.

The Good Book is all about forgiveness and a lot of other good books talk about the empowering freedom that comes with genuine forgiveness.

It's not clear why this connection exists, but it may be because forgiving people are better at coping with life's events. Remember--to not forgive is to forever tie yourself to the incident or individual that harmed you.

It's thought that teaching forgiveness may be a valuable mental health early intervention strategy. (Mad In America)
