It's that time of year again when food banks get busy. 8 different food banks serve thousands of people every year in the Yakima area. Dave Roberts in the Manager of the Yakima Union Gospel Mission food bank who says they serve about 1600 people every month but he says they also help other food banks as well. "We are blessed with an overabundance of food items and we redistribute the food to the Rotary and OIC food banks."
Roberts says without the food banks many families would go hungry. All the food banks take donations. And many including the Union Gospel Mission will be looking your donations in November and December to help needy families this holiday season.
You'll find food banks at the Salvation Army, OIC of Yakima, the Union Gospel Mission, the Rotary food bank, St. Vincent in Union Gap and Yakima's Seventh day Adventist Church. Those are just a few. You can Google a long list of food banks located throughout Yakima County .
